Recycling Time

I have recently moved home back to the countryside, my days being filled with long walks, baking, reading and of course the dreaded job-hunt. While trying to clear out my room today I came across an old dress, too pretty to throw away, and in anticipation of the redecoration of my room planned for next week, set to making a pretty cushion.

The homemade craze has swept Britain with the help of shows such as "Kirsties Homemade Home" on C4; my cushion was so quick and easy to make I thought I should share! So, grab your old dresses, sewing machines, thread and put Kirstie Allsopp to shame!

I used this pretty old number...

Cut off the bottom section of the dress for front/back of my soon-to-be cushion.

I don't have much patience, so I chose to roughly judge the size of my cushion using an old one. If you have a lot of time you really should outline exactly where to stitch etc; I just like to make it up as I go along though, and it's worked out fine!

I stitched the top, bottom and one side of the material together, leaving the last side to slot in the pillow...

When this was done, I stitched the other side up; you can also attach a zip, but as this cushion is just for decoration and won't get any wear I didn't have any reason to take the pillow out!

Then get busy with stitching and attaching buttons, pearls, frills or anything else which takes your fancy!

And TA-DA, in less than an hour here we have it! A brilliant way to turn your gorgeous old clothes into something vintage and pretty for the home! If you give it a go link me so I can check out your work/get inspired!
